Commonly asked questions

When do I need to get one?
1: When you are building something 200 square feet or more
2: When you are replacing electrical, plumbing, or mechanical and would need an inspection.
3: changes the structure of the home.

If I do not need a permit is there anything I should worry about?
Yes; Easements and Setbacks.
There are easements in most properties which you are not allowed to build on. To check if you have an easement on your property please call the office. We are able to give you the required setbacks for your project along with the information on your lot.

What do I need to turn in?

Building Permit Application
**All Building Permits are to be electronic and submitted through City Inspect**

City Inspect will outline what is required for each permit type. Please make sure you select the right application type in City Inspect and follow the requirements listed.

Process:
1. Complete the permit application, along with uploading required attachments via the City Inspect website (Click here to be redirected)
2. The plans are then submitted to our Inspector to be reviewed. The review process takes an average of 7 - 10 business days.
3. The plans are given back to the City to process the amounts for the permit. You will receive an email from City Inspect with the status of your permit as it moves along the process to being issued.

**Once the permit is obtained work should start within 6 months. As long as inspections and work continues to happen every 6 months, the permit will stay open.**

What is SWPPP
It is a Federally Required Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan which is now required for all new construction. This is a plan created by constructors to show how they will control the sediment and erosion while construction is in process.
